Misty Scottish wedding at Monachyle Mhor
A perfect wedding venue and perfect misty weather for this loch side marriage in the Scottish hills.
Let me start by saying that Monachyle Mhor is my new favourite wedding venue to take photographs at. The view as you enter the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and drive up the rutted single track road towards the hotel is fantastic (see the photos of The Oysterman here for a look at that view).
Arriving at the converted farmhouse you can start to see how quirky, unique and bang on trend this place is. From old work benches, vintage iMacs, heritage inspired decorations and subtly different artworks, to the traditional copper serving bowls and attention to excellent locally sourced seasonal food, this place says “I’m your new favourite place to be.”
There’s some lovely rooms with a great balance of modern design blended with the traditional features in the courtyard, and – BONUS! – the Dutch Barn next door. Very rough around the edges but full of shabby and quirky, hip character and style. Saddles and deer antlers sit side by side with a giant mirrorball and heart shaped wood burning fire.
If you fancy a romantic weekend away, there’s also the alternative option of the small self contained gypsy style caravan overlooking the loch for a bit of privacy while still keeping the hotel amenities close at hand. I’ve also just heard the Argyle & Bute ferry waiting room has been trucked into the woods next door to provide yet another alternative overnight retreat. Can’t wait to see it.
On this wedding day the weather was perfect for that romantic Scottish look to the photographs. Mist and brooding clouds make the hills look extra dramatic, and check out that sporran too.
